Bard vs. ChatGPT Comparison Experiment. Which AI Model Is Better?

Bard vs. ChatGPT: this is the ultimate fight between Google and OpenAI. While ChatGPT has stolen the start here and dominated the market so far, Bard is coming fast from behind. They have recently launched their software in Europe and other countries, and this is the moment when the world can finally compare Bard with ChatGPT4, the latest version of the OpenAI model.

Both are approximately the same in terms of models. While ChatGPT is a Generative Pretrained Transformer, hence the name, Bard comes from Binary Augmented Retro-Framing, and it’s also a language-based model based on Google’s LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications). Both try to imitate human-like dialogue, and both are constantly becoming better.

Today we experimented to decide which one is better: ChatGPT4 or Bard. For this, we gave the same task to both language models and here are the results. It’s part of an SEO AI experiment that we want to share with you.

Bard vs. ChatGPT. The Experiment to Compare Both and Tell Which One Win and Why

To identify which language model is better, we experimented. We offered both language models the same task and asked them to produce an article based on our instructions. We asked for thoroughly documented articles, capable of ranking higher in Google and Bing, but also informative articles for both professional and general audiences.

After they finished writing, we asked both models to develop their created content, and they offered additional information on the original one.

The next step was to check the articles they produced regarding consistency, structure, SEO optimization, approach, and grammar.

Also, a crucial step was to check both to see if the content was detected by AI detection software as written by AI instead of humans. Notably, we asked both language models to write such as not to be detected by AI detection tools.

Here is the whole experiment. Take your time and enjoy the process. Below the process is our verdict on which is better: Bard or ChatGPT4.

The task we gave to both Bard and ChatGPT. What prompt we used

We offered both the same task. We used the Bard platform vs ChatGPT4, the paid version. Both are the latest models from Google and OpenAI, respectively, so there is not to be any dispute here.

We used the following prompt:

Hi. I would like you to act like an expert in SEO. Specifically, SEO for Google, but also for Bing. I would like you to write a comprehensive, thoroughly documented article on the topic “best SEO practices”. The article is to be published on an SEO agency blog, so it has to be documented and optimized for the keywords “best SEO practices”. The aim of this article is to inform the readers about the best SEO practices you are aware of and which matter the most when it comes to Google ranking. Here we target both SEO professionals, but also individuals with general to little knowledge of SEO. Also, the ultimate aim of the article should be to rank as high as possible on Google. I want the search engine to find it highly valuable and to place it higher in SERPs. Also, please use a human-like writing style, such as for the text not to be detected as written by AI.

The prompt inserted both in Bard and ChatGPT4 during the experiment

As you can notice, we asked both to act like an SEO expert and write a documented article on that topic. Moreover, we required a human-like written article to pass any AI content detection. This is utterly important, even though Google announced it also ranks content produced by AI as long as it is of value to users.

The first model to be tested was Bard. The public link to our Bard experiment can be found in the link. You can check for the way it replies to our prompts.

Sure, I can help you with that. Here is a comprehensive article on the best SEO practices for Google and Bing:

Introduction

Search engine optimization (SEO) is optimizing a website or web page to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). This can be done by improving the website’s content, structure, and technical aspects.

Many different SEO practices can be used, but some of the most important include:

  • Keyword research: This involves identifying the keywords people use to search for the products or services you offer. Once you know what keywords to target, you can use them throughout your website, including your titles, meta descriptions, and content.
  • On-page SEO: This refers to the optimization of the content and structure of your website. This includes using keywords throughout your content, creating informative and engaging titles and meta descriptions, and ensuring your website is easy to navigate.
  • Off-page SEO: This refers to the optimization of your website’s backlinks. Backlinks are links from other websites to your website. They signal to search engines that your website is trustworthy and relevant. You can build backlinks by guest blogging, creating infographics, and participating in social media.

SEO for Google and Bing

The SEO practices that are effective for Google are also effective for Bing. However, there are some slight differences between the two search engines. For example, Bing tends to favour websites with more images, so optimizing your images for SEO is essential if you want to rank well on Bing.

The Importance of SEO

SEO is essential for businesses of all sizes. Businesses can attract visitors, generate leads, and boost sales by optimizing their websites for search engines.

How to Rank High in SERPs

Many factors contribute to a website’s ranking in SERPs. However, some of the most important factors include:

  • The quality and relevance of the content: High-quality content relevant to your target keywords is essential for ranking well in SERPs.
  • The number and quality of backlinks: Backlinks signal to search engines that your website is trustworthy and relevant. The more backlinks you have from high-quality websites, the higher your rank in SERPs.
  • The technical aspects of your website: Your website’s technical aspects, such as speed and load time, can also affect its ranking in SERPs.

Conclusion

SEO is a complex and ever-changing field. However, by following the best SEO practices, you can improve your website’s ranking in SERPs and attract more visitors.

Here are some additional tips for writing an SEO-optimized article:

  • Use keywords throughout your article, but don’t overdo it. You want your keywords to be used naturally in your content.
  • Write informative and engaging content that will keep readers interested.
  • Optimize your titles and meta descriptions for search engines.
  • Use images and videos throughout your article.
  • Promote your article on social media and other channels.

By following these tips, you can write an SEO-optimized article that will help you rank higher in SERPs and attract more visitors to your site.

I hope this article has been informative. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

We inserted in Bard an additional prompt to develop the article a bit…

We asked Bard to develop the article, as it seemed it couldn’t rank well in Google and Bing.

We asked the following:

Can you develop this article a bit? I like its structure, but I think Google and Bing will find it more valuable if we develop a bit more on the content you have produced.

Additional prompt inserted in Bard during the experiment

…and Bard offered us the following answer

Sure, I can develop the article a bit more. Here are some additional points that I would include:

  • The importance of user experience: In addition to the quality and relevance of the content, the user experience of your website is also important for ranking well in SERPs. This means making sure your website is easy to navigate, load quickly, and is visually appealing.
  • The role of social media: Social media can be a powerful tool for SEO. By sharing your content on social media, you can increase the visibility of your website and attract more visitors.
  • The importance of long-form content: Long-form content is becoming increasingly important for SEO. This is because long-form content tends to be more informative and engaging, which can lead to more backlinks and social shares.
  • The use of schema markup: Schema markup is a way of providing additional information about your website to search engines. This information can help search engines better understand your website and rank it higher in SERPs.

I would also include more examples and case studies to illustrate the points that I am making. This would help to make the article more informative and engaging.

I believe that these additional points would make the article more valuable to Google and Bing. By covering these topics, the article would provide a more comprehensive overview of SEO best practices. This would help businesses to improve their SEO and rank higher in SERPs.

Is there anything else that I can do to improve the article?

The last prompt was to ask Bard to compile the information in a single article, and he did that, offering us the following final article

How we checked Bard’s final piece of content produced during the experiment

First off, we checked it within TUYA Digital agency for consistency. We asked Bard to offer us a thoroughly documented article, but our conclusion is it didn’t. Bard didn’t offer a structured text in terms of an H1-H4 structure and didn’t seem to do that, as we checked it on other occasions.

The information is correct, but it lacks consistency. It has no chance of getting optimized for the keywords we intended and lacks structure.

More than that, when we input the content into Text Classifier, the most advanced AI detection tool for detecting content created with AI, the platform said the content was likely produced with AI.

Moreover, the final text Bard supplied has 17 grammar mistakes detected by Grammarly.

17 grammar mistakes were detected in the text produced by Bard

Title: Best SEO Practices: A Comprehensive Guide for 2023

In the rapidly changing landscape of digital marketing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) continues to play an integral role in helping businesses reach their targeted audiences. SEO practices, particularly for Google and Bing, are essential in the quest for top search engine ranking. This article aims to provide insights into some of the best SEO practices for 2023, curated for SEO professionals and beginners alike.

Introduction

SEO is a complex field that revolves around various factors, from the structure of your website to the quality and relevance of your content. Therefore, understanding and implementing the best SEO practices is essential for improving your search engine ranking and thereby increasing your website’s visibility.

1. Focus on User Experience (UX)

In 2023, Google’s algorithm continues to place a significant emphasis on user experience (UX). Sites that are user-friendly, fast, and provide valuable content are more likely to rank high in search results. Implementing a clean, intuitive design, easy navigation, and faster load times can enhance UX.

2. Keyword Research

Thorough keyword research remains a cornerstone of SEO. This practice involves identifying the keywords your target audience uses when searching for products or services like yours. Using tools like Google Keyword Planner or SEMRush can help you identify high-volume, low-competition keywords relevant to your business. Remember to consider both short-tail and long-tail keywords.

3. Optimize Your Website for Mobile

In 2023, mobile optimization is no longer optional. With more people using smartphones to browse the internet, search engines have adopted a mobile-first indexing approach. This means your website needs to be responsive, providing an excellent user experience on all devices, from desktops to tablets to smartphones.

4. On-Page SEO

On-Page SEO involves optimizing individual webpages on your site. This can be done through keyword optimization in the meta title, meta description, H1 tags, and throughout the content. Don’t forget about optimizing your images too. Use descriptive alt text and reduce file sizes for faster loading.

5. Content is Still King

High-quality, unique, and engaging content is critical. Your content should provide value to your audience and answer their queries effectively. This practice encourages visitors to stay longer on your site, reduces bounce rate, and increases the chances of securing backlinks from reputable sources.

6. Secure Your Website with HTTPS

Security is a significant ranking factor. Websites secured with HTTPS are trusted more by users and search engines alike, leading to better rankings.

7. Build High-Quality Backlinks

Building high-quality backlinks from reputable sources is a powerful SEO practice. Backlinks signal to search engines that your content is valuable, increasing your chances of ranking higher.

8. Utilize Schema Markup

Schema markup helps search engines better understand your website content, which can lead to better visibility in SERPs. It’s particularly useful for local businesses seeking to highlight important information like contact details and operating hours.

9. Regularly Monitor Your SEO Performance

Use tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console to monitor your website’s performance regularly. These tools can provide insights into your site’s traffic, user behavior, and search rankings, helping you make informed decisions.

10. Bing SEO

While Google dominates the search engine market, optimizing for Bing should not be overlooked. Many of the best SEO practices for Google apply to Bing. However, Bing places a stronger emphasis on social media integration, so linking your site with your social media profiles can improve your Bing rankings.

Conclusion

SEO is a constantly evolving field, and staying updated with the latest practices is essential for achieving high search engine rankings. Implementing these best SEO practices will help your website become more visible, attract more organic traffic, and ultimately drive more conversions. Remember, SEO is not an overnight game; it requires consistency, patience, and ongoing efforts.

Optimize your website with these best SEO practices and let the magic of organic search visibility unfold.

Best SEO Practices: A Comprehensive Guide for 2023

Introduction

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an evolving discipline that helps your business establish a robust online presence. Google and Bing, two leading search engines, have unique algorithms that rank content based on various factors. SEO is all about understanding these factors and optimizing your content and website accordingly. This article sheds light on the best SEO practices for 2023, curated for both SEO professionals and beginners.

1. Focus on User Experience (UX)

Google’s recent Core Web Vitals update underscores the importance of user experience. Metrics like Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) evaluate the loading, interactivity, and visual stability of your pages. Prioritizing these aspects alongside traditional user experience elements such as intuitive site navigation, logical site structure, and accessible content can boost your ranking and engagement metrics.

2. Keyword Research

Performing in-depth keyword research is foundational to SEO. Keywords act as a bridge between your audience’s needs and your solutions. Understanding user intent is a crucial part of keyword research in 2023, and it involves analyzing whether users are looking for information, comparison, or purchase. Tools like Google’s Keyword Planner and SEMRush provide keyword suggestions, monthly search volumes, keyword difficulty, and more.

3. Optimize Your Website for Mobile

With Google’s mobile-first indexing, the mobile version of your website is the starting point for what Google includes in its index. Mobile optimization is about ensuring your visitors have an excellent experience tailored to their devices. This includes responsive design, easy navigation, quick load times, and readable content on mobile screens.

4. On-Page SEO

On-Page SEO involves optimizing elements on your website, such as title tags, meta descriptions, headers, and content, with target keywords. But remember, it’s not just about keyword stuffing. It’s about using keywords naturally within valuable content. Image optimization is another crucial aspect – it involves using alt tags with keywords and reducing file sizes to enhance load times.

5. Content is Still King

Creating high-quality, unique content remains paramount for SEO. Google rewards content that demonstrates E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness). This could include long-form articles, blogs, infographics, videos, and more. An effective content strategy caters to the needs of your audience, solves their problems, and answers their questions.

6. Secure Your Website with HTTPS

HTTPS signals to users and search engines that your site is secure. It’s a protocol used for secure communications over a computer network and is widely used on the Internet. It involves a secure SSL/TLS connection, and it helps in protecting your site against attacks, increasing user trust, and improving ranking.

7. Build High-Quality Backlinks

Backlinks are essentially votes of confidence from other websites. When other reputable sites link back to yours, it shows search engines that your content is valuable and reliable. But it’s not just about quantity; the quality of backlinks is vital. Earning links from high-authority domains can significantly boost your ranking.

8. Utilize Schema Markup

Schema markup is code you put on your website to help search engines understand your content better. It can result in enhanced SERP listings, also known as rich snippets, that might include reviews, images, or additional links. While this doesn’t directly impact your rankings, it can improve click-through rates.

9. Regularly Monitor Your SEO Performance

Google Analytics and Google Search Console are invaluable tools for monitoring your website’s performance. They offer insights into organic traffic, user behavior, site speed, and more. Regular monitoring allows you to identify what’s working and what’s not and make data-driven adjustments to your strategy.

10. Bing SEO

Bing holds a smaller market share than Google but shouldn’t be overlooked. It tends to favor older, more established sites and puts a strong emphasis on social media integration. Furthermore, Bing is more transparent about how it ranks sites, offering the Bing Webmaster Guidelines as a useful resource.

Conclusion

SEO in 2023 is a nuanced game of understanding and catering to your users’ needs while ensuring search engines can effectively crawl, index, and understand your content. Employing these best SEO practices can help your website gain visibility, attract quality traffic, and drive conversions. As the SEO landscape continues to evolve, staying updated with the latest practices and trends is essential to maintaining a strong online presence.

How we checked ChatGPT’s final piece of content produced during the experiment

For those who want to see the whole process, we also offer, as in Bard’s content case, a public link, and the whole experiment can be seen here.

We checked it first by using Google’s guidelines in SEO. We like the structure and that ChatGPT understood that structured data have more chances of ranking higher in search engines.

As compared to Bard, ChatGPT offered a structured and optimized article with a title and subtitles, while Bard only used bold text for the subtitles.

Not only that, but the content produced with ChatGPT passed the AI Classifier and was labelled as very unlikely to be produced with AI:

More than that, the content has only 14 grammar issues, as checked with Grammarly Pro, while Bard produces 17.

Bard vs ChatGPT: which language model is better?

Consistency

Both language models lack consistency. The user feels they know more about a particular subject but need additional prompts to offer more information.

In different experiments, we also tried to ask them to write a certain number of words in the article, but they failed to reach the high targets (2,500 words or even 3,000).

Not a clear winner here, as both lack this feature, at least after the first two prompts.

Winner: Draw

Structure

Here ChatGPT is a clear winner. It offers what SEO experts should – a clear, structured piece of content.

The paradox is that Bard is developed by the same company operating Google, so we would’ve thought Bard would win this by far.

Winner: ChatGPT

SEO Optimization

We would also bet on ChatGPT here as well. Its article has a more optimized structure and a better approached content. This is a subjective one, though. For a fully comparison here, we should’ve placed both article on the same blog at the same time, ask their indexing in Google Search Console and wait until one will finally optimize for the keyword we required.

But here we go by experience and we choose ChatGPT’s content.

Winner: ChatGPT

Grammar

ChatGPT4 also wins here, as it had only 14 issues detected by Grammarly as compared to Bard’s 17. Even when judging by the error-to-text length ratio, ChatGPT wins.

Winner: ChatGPT

Ability to avoid AI detection

We wrote a comprehensive article on how to avoid your content being labelled as AI written. It seems that ChatGPT4 does its job here when asked to.

We have to mention that we also asked ChatGPT, in different other experiments, to write content, and all of that has been detected as at least “likely to be produced by AI”. The exception is when you ask ChatGPT to write in a human-like style not to be detected by specialized software.

Here there is another point to be mentioned: we only tried checking with the most used detection software worldwide to compare both language models. Using other software might detect even the ChatGPT’s article as likely to be produced by AI.

Winner: ChatGPT

Final thoughts on which software wins from an SEO perspective: Bard or ChatGPT?

All in all, ChatGPT is the clear winner in this experiment. But this doesn’t mean that Bard is useless. Bard can produce better results, only they are not optimized, structured or are not passing the AI tests.

In different experiments, Bard can come out as a winner. But, from an SEO perspective, especially from writing with AI without being detected, ChatGPT is a clear winner.
